Calling All Citizen Journalists: New York

by David Cohn on November 4, 2007 - 10:29pm.

While I often use this blog to support NewAssignment.Net projects — it is also a space to spread word about any good networked journalism effort (hint hint: email me with tips).

Our friends over at Current TV contacted me to spread the word about an upcoming networked journalism project. Details are below

“Five 3-person Backpack Feedback Media crews, each comprised of a
producer, a projectionist/lighting technician, and an interviewer will
be dispatched to the streets of the New York City for five consecutive
nights, Tuesday, November 6 through Saturday November 10.”

Their mission: Travel to several locations where they will play provocative clips from Current TV for everyone to see.

This is literally citizen media — taking the content right to the street. You don’t need a TV to see the content, you just have to show up. The backpack teams will also be interviewing people for their reactions to the clips and looking for people to blog about the event afterwords.

It’s very similar to what Jon Alpert does at the Downtown Community Television Center.

Perhaps Current got the idea when two of the founding members met Jon at a recent panel in New York.

Either way: The times and locations are below. If you are around, I’m sure this would be a cool/blogworthy experience.
